On my visit to an elementary school today I was swept away by the giddy that was sweeping away the students. It was 8am and as I was still relying on my second cup of coffee to kickstart me into alertness, these kids were high on childhood. They were excited to see one another, swapping hugs and hi-fives as if it had been weeks since they’d last seen each other. They were showing off projects and reports due, and quizzing each other for the day’s tests. But above all else, what really struck me was that when the bell rang, hundreds of curious minds darted for their respective classrooms eager to soak up what the day had in store for them.
I often get asked how it was so easy for me to date so much; how I never got buried in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, down about a series of loser dates (which of course I had) and while the answer could be a series of blog postings, one fundamental reason is that I never went to class (i.e. a date) looking to graduate (i.e. to get married). I was a mere student of dating. I approached each date as an opportunity to learn something. I showed up to each date engaged, with a thirst for knowledge and an excitement not to see how it would end up but to discover what I would, well, discover… about the guy and about myself.
So on your next date, channel your second grade sensibilities. Inject yourself with curiosity and wonder instead of skepticism and pressure… you will undoubtedly score a higher grade with yourself and with your date!
Live and love largely,
Tristan

Waiting in line for a latte can be the ideal time to return a call or beat the next level of Brickbreaker and the idea of flying on a plane iPod-less sounds so 2001, but putting yourself in a technological bubble makes it hard for potential mandidates to break through to you. Buds in your ears or your pretty little face buried in a PDA not only makes it difficult for a guy to penetrate your tech zone, as purposefully or not, you are putting up a “do not disturb” sign. In a world filled with tech-obsessed busy bodies, being the antithesis to this is a refreshing sight to see, and a subtle invitation to guys. So the next time you’ve got some idle time, where sure, you could pound through a dozen emails, text your BFFs or get lost in your favorite new download, consider instead disconnecting from your techie gadgets and open up to connecting with a human hottie. I guarantee pushing a boys buttons will be more fun!
